Woman and her daughter hit by car

-

A WOMAN and her six-year-old daughter were hit by a BMW when it reportedly went over an embankment as they were on a footpath.

Police cordoned off Bracelet Bay car park in Swansea after the incident happened on Saturday at around 2.30pm. The coastguard, fire service and paramedics also attended the scene.

South Wales Police said the woman and her daughter were on a footpath when they were hit by the car. The 35-year-old woman was taken to hospital with serious injuries but police later revealed they were not life-threatening or life-changing. The little girl suffered minor injuries.

An 84-year-old woman was driving the car and was not injured. She was being supported by her family.

South Wales Police said: “A car is understood to have collided with two pedestrians on a footpath at approximately 2.30pm. A woman has been admitted to hospital with serious injuries. A young girl was also injured, but her injuries are not believed to be serious.

“The 84 year-old driver of the vehicle was not injured.”

PS Huw O’Connell said the car involved was a BMW 2 Series and the scene was being preserved by officers until they received an update on the injuries of both mum and daughter.

But on Sunday, police confirmed the vehicle had been recovered and the cordon had been removed.

PS O’Connell said a number of people at the scene stepped in to offer their help immediately after the incident happened.

One woman visited Mumbles just minutes after the incident took place and witnessed the immediate aftermath.

“We pulled in to see what was going on and then we saw the car which had gone down the embankment onto the footpath. It had travelled quite a way.

“As we were walking down we heard what eye-witnesses were saying to the police.

“There was a child on the floor with a blanket over her with the paramedics. We saw an old lady come out of the car who was a bit shaken up.”

Ffion Chislett, Alex Chislett and Eva Rees visited Mumbles for a trip to the arcades and returned to find their car trapped within the police cordon.

“We didn’t know what was going on,” they said. “We’d been to the arcades and came back and our car was in the cordon. We didn’t want to get involved and we’re just waiting until it’s safe.”

Police are appealing for witnesses, or anyone with dashcam footage, to call them on 101 quoting reference number 343322.
