Price sets his sights on worlds

-

GERWYN Price has hinted that he could take a year out of darts if he becomes world champion.

The Welshman has enjoyed a dream week that saw him claim three titles after winning 17 successive matches.

Price fought back from 7-4 down to beat Devon Peterson 8-7 to win day four of the PDC’s Autumn Series in Niedernhausen, Germany on Tuesday, banking £10,000 in prize money.

Just 24 hours later, the former rugby player defeated Krzysztof Ratajski to clinch his second title in as many days, doubling his earnings for the week in the process.

And he capped off a remarkable sixday period by beating Vincent van der Voort, Nathan Aspinall, Peter Wright and then Rob Cross to win the World Series of Darts Finals for the first time in his career.

The 35-year-old’s triumph against former world champion Cross earned him an eye-watering £70,000 in prize money, taking his total earned to £90,000 in just six days.

Speaking after landing his third title in a week, former Neath, Cross Keys and Glasgow Warriors hooker Price admitted his next aim was to become world champion.

And Price hinted that he could even take a year out of the sport if he emerges victorious at the next World Darts Championship, which is scheduled to get underway in mid-December.

“I’m looking forward to the Europeans next week and I look forward to the Grand Prix after that,” said the world number three. “I’ve got one eye on the worlds, and if I win that I might even take a year out.”
