TV wipes out internet as fans tune in for Piers

-

A RETIRED couple have told how they wiped out their small village’s broadband every day for 18 months when they switched on to watch Piers Morgan.

Alun and Elaine Rees’ old £30 16in Bush television was identified as the cause of the issues for their neighbours in the Powys village of Aberhosan, near Machynlleth.

Engineers were baffled when the internet for the 400-population village would disappear at 7am every day.

But the mystery was finally solved when the “electrical noise” responsible was traced to the couple’s home.

The set, which is in the couple’s bedroom, was turned on every morning so they could watch Good Morning Britain.

Retired GP receptionist Elaine, 63, told Good Morning Britain: “We didn’t know.

“One morning during lock

down we were in bed at around 8.30am watching you (Piers Morgan) we could hear two men outside talking about signal strength.

“We looked out of the window and saw they were BT engineers holding some kind of meters.

“They stopped outside our house and one of them was pointing at our front door.

“Next thing they’re knocking the door and asking us to turn the telly off at the wall, saying it was causing a problem with the internet.”

Elaine added the set would go on at 7am because: “I love watching Piers Morgan in the mornings.”

Retired farmer Alun, 67, added: “He told me we’d better get rid of the set immediately because it was interfering with the internet connection all over the village.

“He said we’d have the whole village on our doorstep if anyone found out we were the cause of the problem.

“Our son lives next door and he was having building work done so we chucked it on his skip.”
