Will Utd make move for Wales ace Brooks?

-

MANCHESTER United have been given a clear run at Bournemouth winger David Brooks after Leicester City announced their latest signing.

United and Leicester each harboured an interest in recruiting the Wales international in this transfer window.

However, the Foxes appear to have filled that wing berth with the loan signing of Roma’s Cengiz Under, meaning their priorities will now have shifted.

It is no secret United want to strengthen in the wide areas, with a £108million move for Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho having been one of the biggest transfer stories of the summer.

But the two clubs remain some way apart in their valuation of the England international and United have drawn up a shortlist of potential replacements to supplement Solskjaer’s attacking options.

Brooks is thought to be hovering somewhere near the top of that list, with Bournemouth asking for around £40m for the promising 23-year-old.

The MEN report that no official bid has been tabled for the Cherries wide man, but the interest from the Old Trafford club is said to be real.

United legend Ryan Giggs, Brooks’ coach at international level, has history when it comes to recommending players to his former club – he did so with Daniel James’ transfer from Swansea City a little over a year ago.

And he has backed the Bournemouth star to be a success, wherever his future lies when the transfer window closes on October 16.

“I’ve seen there’s speculation about a lot of players,” he said. “Brooksy’s obviously a talented player and now Bournemouth are in the Championship. I’ve always said it’s better if the lads are playing, and the higher the standard the better as well. But that isn’t always a given.

“Some players have gone to Premier League teams and not actually played. We’ve got a lot of lads in the Championship.

“I don’t think it would matter with Brooksy, even if it’s in the Premier League or Championship, he’d still have that bit of class.

“There’s a lot of speculation with a lot of Premier League clubs, United included.

“He’s a player who gets you off your seat, he’s someone who likes to take players on and make things happen.”
