WINNING People’s Postcode Lottery made a lifechanging difference to nursery teacher Joanne – and her family.

Not only could Joanne think about opening her own nursery, it also meant her daughter Georgina could have a much-needed operation.

“This is going to make a huge difference to us,” said Joanne, who with husband Huw won £196,528. “Our children Tom and Georgina both suffer from bad eyesight, but now we’ll be able to get the operation that our Georgie needs.”

Joanne and five of her Poppy Field Avenue neighbours each netted almost £200,000 – one was awarded a whopping £393,056 playing with two tickets – in an amazing £3million prize draw that saw more than 600 Cwmbran residents scoop a share.

Joanne added: “The fact that just by playing we are raising money for charity is hugely important to me. I lost my mum to cancer and suffered so badly with the loss. What charities do to support people is just incredible and so important.

“It was the loss of my mum that pushed me to retrain and become a nursery teacher. Now one day I may be able to open my own nursery.” And Huw added: “We’re going to enjoy life.” Chloe and partner Joe, wanting to get back to their nine-month-old daughter and thinking they’d won just £2,387, left the prize event at

Cwmbran Stadium before the full winning postcode was announced – only to rush back and discover they’d won £196,528.

“We can buy a house now,” said Chloe. “It’s absolutely amazing.”

Local finance worker Louise also received a £196,528 prize and said: “I’m totally speechless. I never expected to win this kind of money. I’m ecstatic.” Louise had more than a few ideas on how she was going to put her winnings to good use – including treats for her daughter: “Daytona had her heart set on a dressing table for her bedroom, and I’ve always wanted to take her on a safari holiday. South Africa would be top of my list and, thanks to winning, I’ll be able to make it even more memorable for us both.”

That just by playing we are raising money for charity is hugely important to me. Joanne from Poppy Field Avenue in Wales
