Star Luke would be in 00-Evans with Bond role

-

WELSH actor Luke Evans is keen on taking on the 007 role, which will be recast after Daniel Craig’s final appearance in the forthcoming No Time to Die.

The star of The Pembrokeshire Murders and upcoming drama from Big Little Lies team, Nine Perfect Strangers, said that he would “jump at the chance” to play James Bond in a recent interview.

The Aberbargoed-raised actor said: “I think I’ve cut my teeth very well in movies I’ve done and I’ve enjoyed every second of it. It’s a phenomenal job, a phenomenal franchise, an incredible role.

“I have to say, though, it’s a daunting task for any actor to play the role after Daniel Craig. No-one knows what’s happening. It’s a very secretive process and it’s a wonderful role. I would jump at the chance, as would many actors in my position, so we shall see. It will be an exciting casting moment for the Bond production and I wish whoever gets it the best of luck.”

One other Welshman has starred in the James Bond films, Timothy Dalton.

Born in Colwyn Bay, Dalton starred in Licence to Kill and The Living Daylights in the 1980s.

During 2020 Evans was on location in Australia filming Nine Perfect Strangers with Nicole Kidman, Melissa McCarthy and Regina Hall.

The show, made by US streaming service Hulu, is based on the novel by Lianne Moriarty who also penned Big Little Lies, starring Kidman, and takes place at a boutique health-and-wellness resort that promises healing and transformation as nine stressed city dwellers try to get on a path to a better way of living.
