ABEAUTY salon could be closed down after it was found breaching coronavirus regulations several times on the same day.

Glamour Forever in Kingsway Shopping Centre, Newport, closed its doors voluntarily at least twice on Monday after a Newport City Council enforcement officer found several breaches of coronavirus rules.

According to the improvement notice the salon was first visited at around 11.30am. The enforcement officer found that there was no signage telling customers to wear a mask and no signage stating the maximum number of people allowed inside.

Sanitiser was also not available at the entrance and a staff member was “about to provide eyebrow threading treatment wearing only disposable gloves and a mask face covering”.

The notice says the staff member was “not aware of or trained in the disposal of PPE”.

The shop closed until the breaches were addressed. The improvement notice says the salon reopened again at 1.40pm but the issues had not been addressed and a staff member was about to provide eyebrow threading treatment to a customer.

The “customer who had ‘walked in’ stated she did not have an appointment but [was] shown to a chair”.

It says no NHS Test, Trace, Protect details were taken and the lone member of staff said she did not know what NHS Test Trace Protect records were or that they had to be obtained from all customers.

The staff member about to provide the eyebrow threading had also still not been trained in the disposal of PPE, said the enforcement officer. The shop was closed for a second time, but it reopened at about 2.15pm.

According to the notice, the breaches around signage still hadn’t been fixed, and there was still no sanitiser for customers at the entrance.

Although the staff member said there were “no appointments this afternoon”, a customer walked in and was given one for the next day, but “was not offered sanitiser”.

The notice says the “lone staff member stated she had still not received PPE disposal training”.

The beauty salon was given 48 hours to make the necessary changes.
