Brothers caused riot outside pub after being refused entry to charge a phone
TWO brothers caused a riot outside a pub which left a man with a broken jaw after they were refused entry to charge a phone.
Liam Drew, 25, and his brother, Christopher Drew, became involved in an affray outside the Six in Hand pub in Croesyceiliog, Cwmbran, on August 7 last year.
The defendant, Liam Drew, began punching and kicking patrons of the pub when Christopher Drew was taken to the ground after attempting to push his way inside. Craig Price sustained a broken jaw when he was punched by Liam Drew.
A sentencing hearing for Liam Drew at Cardiff Crown Court heard pub licensee Nicola Bullimore saw the defendant and Christopher Drew drive into the pub car park at 5pm, when they had an “ill-tempered” conversation with customers.
They returned at 6.30pm, when Liam Drew could be seen swinging a phone charger. They asked if they could enter the pub to charge a phone but they were refused entry.
At this point Christopher Drew shouted: “Do you want a fight?” and attempted to force his way into the pub and threw a punch.
CCTV footage of the incident was played to the court by prosecutor Tom Roberts.
The defendant, of Nether Court, Greenmeadow, Cwmbran, was later arrested and pleaded guilty to affray.
Christopher Drew later received an eight-week prison sentence for a section four public order offence.
Defence barrister Scott Bowen said his client had initially acted as a moderator and tried to restrain his brother but became violent after his brother was kicked.
Sentencing, Recorder Bilal Siddique said: “It was unacceptable behaviour.”
Drew was sentenced to 16 months’ imprisonment suspended for two years and is subject to a six-month mental health order, 20 days’ rehabilitation requirement, and must pay Mr Price £260 in compensation.
