WHAT is really needed is long term, reliable and sustainable funding if these services are going to have any hope of properly supporting all the women who need their help.

This was the point in the first wave of the virus that the impact domestic violence services was most prominent. However just because it slipped off the news agenda doesn’t mean the issue went away. Throughout the crisis the virus made an already difficult situation for women even harder.

7. Lies, Damn Lies, and 100,000 Tests by the End of April

April 27 to May 3

■ Wales’ confirmed Covid-19 cases – 9,280

■ Wales deaths – 796

■ UK confirmed cases – 142,373

■ UK deaths – 21,092

AFTER just under a month out of action from contracting coronavirus Boris Johnson was back at the helm of the UK Government and was ‘raring to go’ following what was a near death experience.

Speaking to the Sun on Sunday Mr Johnson said it was “50-50 whether they were going to have to put a tube down my windpipe” and that his doctors had actually planned how they were going to announce his death.

Though back in work Mr Johnson did not take on Sir Keir Starmer at PMQs this week while he got his feet back under the desk, leaving it to Dominic Raab.

The grim news continued to pour in, and as the death toll continued to climb a cold storage facility at the Queen Alexandra Dock in Cardiff was converted into a temporary morgue to hold bodies from across the Welsh capital. The Welsh Government also announced the introduction of a new ‘death in service scheme’ of £60,000 paid to the families of NHS workers who died of coronavirus.

It was also bleak on the jobs front as Airbus announced a cut to production at Broughton, and the First Minister said that the Welsh steel industry could not be supported by the Welsh Government and required UK Government support.
