Van rammed into jewellery shop

-

POLICE are investigating after a stolen van was rammed into a jewellery shop before being followed along the A48 and M4 and later ‘brought to a stop’ by police.

The incident happened in Carmarthen, yesterday morning. Police said they received a call shortly before 6am to reports that someone had gained entry to the shop with the use of a Transit van.

Police said the vehicle involved was followed along a dual carriageway outside Carmarthen and eventually stopped with the aid of armed police and officers from

South Wales Police in the Morriston area of Swansea. A man was later arrested in connection with the incident. Officers are now also looking for a second person they suspect to have been involved.

It has not been confirmed what, if anything, has been taken.

A spokesman for Dyfed-Powys Police said: “We were called to a break-in at Pandora in Lammas Street, Carmarthen, at around 5.50am on May 4. A black Transit van had been seen reversing into the window to gain entry to the shop.

“The vehicle was followed east along the A48 and M4, before leaving the motorway and being brought to a stop in the Morriston area with the assistance of the joint firearms unit and South Wales Police.

“A 38-year-old man was arrested and remains in police custody. Enquiries are ongoing to locate a second person. The van used in the raid was later reported stolen from the Swansea area.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 quoting DP-20210504-033.
