Explosive trailer for new Wahlberg movie filmed in capital

-

THE first images of the Hollywood movie that transformed part of Cardiff into a New York street have been released.

Mark Wahlberg’s new movie, Infinite, turned part of central Cardiff into a blockbuster set in 2019 with NYPD cars and gunfire as production got under way.

Now the first images of Cardiff’s role in the upcoming film have been revealed.

The film’s trailer has already had more than five million views and shows an Aston Martin smashing through the front of the Mercure Hotel on Newport Road.

But thankfully for the real-life hotel, the impressive-looking sequence appears to have been created using computer-generated imagery. The short clip in the trailer shows the car crash out of the front of the hotel and fly over the top of awaiting police officers.

Gunfire, police cars in a ram raid and an Aston Martin sports car flipping over the central reservation were just some of the scenes spotted during filming which took place in October 2019.

The movie was filmed in various locations across the UK but what has been described as a “major sequence” was filmed in Cardiff.

It is understood that Mark Wahlberg was not involved in the Cardiff scenes.

Although it closed the busy road for two days, Cardiff council was paid less than £2,000 for its part in making it possible.

Infinite is an adaptation of the 2009 novel The Reincarnationist Papers by D Eric Maikranz.

The novel revolves around one man who is haunted by memories of two past lives before he stumbles on a secret society of people called the Cognomina.
