Let’s talk openly about vaccination
NOTHING could better illustrate current confusion re vaccination, than the article by two Swansea University researchers (“Why some people are still vaccine hesitant”,
May 11).
Discussing such hesitant people, they point out that trying “too hard to convince them of the need to get vaccinated without hearing their concerns, might actually make some more resistant”. Such enthusiasm would also be in breach of UK law, which makes clear that valid informed consent can only follow a frank and full discussion of all relevant benefits and risks.
Their comment on concerns about potential side-effects of the Covid-19 vaccine is interesting, considering that the media do not mention approximately 1,200 deaths after the vaccines, reported to the UK MHRA.
As the researchers rightly comment: “What is needed is a more open dialogue between people of different views.” Not forgetting numerous simple facts – namely that these are experimental vaccines, with temporary licences, no medium or long-term safety or efficacy studies, and a total of about 18,000 deaths reported, post-vaccination, in the USA and Europe. Are we surprised that the vaccine-makers have all declined any liability to compensation?
We are only likely to move to the open dialogue that the Swansea researchers call for if the public media remind people of the above facts.
