How they rated

- BY IAN MITCHELMORE

BEN HAMER

Didn’t have a save to make in the opening half against his former employers. Generally OK on the ball and his efforts mean Swansea already have five Championship clean sheets this season.

BEN CABANGO

The Welshman got forward at every opportunity and did his defensive duties well when required. Really composed display.

KYLE NAUGHTON

Naughton’s composure serves Swansea well on numerous occasions at the back. A couple of nervy moments thrown in, but the 32-year-old was generally impressive.

RYAN MANNING

Composed on the ball after slotting into the back three and made some vital defensive interventions in his own box in the second half. Really fine performance.

ETHAN LAIRD

Made a number of tackles that helped Swansea stay on the front foot, and his all-round game was just typical edge-of-your-seat stuff. Faded a little in the second half but can still be very pleased.

MATT GRIMES (CAPT)

The captain kept things ticking over nicely. Good in possession in the first half. Not able to do as much damage after the restart but, on the whole, it was a more than decent display.

JAKE BIDWELL

Linked up nicely with Manning and Jamie Paterson at times, although he wasn’t able to cause problems with his first-time crossing as Swansea again opted against loading the box. Solid showing though.

OLIVIER NTCHAM

Displayed confidence whenever he got on the ball and his quality was evident. Created a fine chance for Joel Piroe in the first half and played his part in an improved attacking effort.

JAMIE PATERSON

The summer signing was hugely impressive in the first half, whether operating slightly deeper or in the final third. He played a key role in Swansea’s opener and could have netted himself soon after. A fine performance, though.

JOEL PIROE

Took his goal superbly well and caused Huddersfield’s defence plenty of problems. The Dutchman could well have had more goals given the chances his side created. Great display.

STAR MAN FLYNN DOWNES

Interceptions, crunching tackles, slick passing, Downes had the lot. A wonderful performance from the summer capture.
