SOUTH Wales-based global communications network infrastructure to data centre support services firm, Indigo, is creating 150 new jobs with plans for a further 300 over the next three years.

The first phase of recruitment will focus on its network operations centre (NOC) in Magor, where new jobs will span a range of support and customer service roles as the facility expands to meet rising global demand.

Indigo provides support to communication service providers, internet companies and large enterprises that depend on telecom engineering expertise to run their global infrastructure.

In the second phase, recruitment will start for 300 open location and office-based roles across the UK and Ireland, and further afield to support Indigo’s global expansion.

Indigo said that customer demand would determine how many of the 450 jobs would be based in Wales and the rest of the UK and how many would be overseas.

The roles will include fibre planners/surveyors, wireless designers/ engineers, project managers, field engineers, data centre technicians and business support roles in accounts, sales, and operations.

Executive chairman of Indigo Kevin Taylor said: “Indigo’s growth reflects growing demand for expertise in supporting a range of infrastructure technologies that are transforming our world, from 5G and fibre-to-the-home to cloud and data centre services. We are proud to run our global operations out of Wales, where we are able to offer exciting careers at the leading-edge of new and emerging technologies.”

Economy Minister Vaughan Gething said: “We welcome Indigo’s expansion and the company’s continued commitment to Wales. It is important for our communities that we can offer high-tech career paths within Wales and play a key part in global growth sectors such as communications and digital industries.”

Established in Magor in 1997, Indigo has more than 1,500 people engaged on projects and services across 90 countries. In the UK it currently employs 250.
