OR is it the false positives that they have been getting? I don’t see how many people with flu are out there or have passed.

First they need to understand the magnitude of the situation. As one simple example, just take the blast furnace section alone of Port Talbot steel works, that emits about 45,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide weekly. That’s just one unit. That may end when the government forces an end to the use of coke to reduce iron ore, which in turn will end integrated steelmaking here. The government has already accepted that in the latest Climate Commission Report this year.
To replace coke with hydrogen as a reductant at that scale is a fantasy. So a “let off” as proposed by the politicians is for the carbon emitters to invest in new forestry in the new proposed carbon offsetting market.
Secondly let’s ask how many growing trees could absorb 45,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide, week in week out, year in year out, just to balance the blast furnace unit in Port Talbot. This is never going to be a one-off thing. First of all, trees will not absorb anything much as whip saplings. If they are deciduous trees they will take 75 years to grow and then die back could begin. Once dead they will rot and release the carbon back into the atmosphere, in a cycle process that’s always happened ever since plant life began on this planet.
In the meantime our traditional farming families, many of whom are Welsh speakers and capable food producers, will be forced off the land by carbon traders in the carbon offsetting markets buying up vast areas of farmland by using their financial muscle. It’s already started, with the blessing of all our mixture of political parties.
Lastly, several million trees have already been cut down in hypocrisy to make room for erratic wind turbines.
This story is so bizarre you could not make it up as a fictional comedy farce tragedy. Pantomime season starts soon, which is far less nonsense than current politics.
