Williams aims to send the Robins flying again

-

NEWTOWN and Bala Town will be looking to maintain the pressure on the top two in the JD Cymru Premier today after watching The New Saints and Flint Town United going head-to-head last night.

The unbeaten league leaders were aiming to make it 11 games undefeated at Flint, while Newtown and Bala will be waiting for any slip-ups. Newtown host Caernarfon Town, while Bala entertain Barry Town United.

Newtown have won their last three league outings since being knocked out of the JD Welsh Cup at home by Carmarthen Town in a penalty shoot-out.

That recovery culminated in a 2-0 win at the home of the reigning champions Connah’s Quay Nomads in their last game.

Aaron Williams has scored five of their eight goals in the three victories, including a hat-trick in the 3-0 win at Jenner Park against Barry Town United. He has been a magnificent signing for the Robins and is obviously enjoying himself.

“It has been a new challenge and I’ve done what the manager told me to do and that is express myself. He told me to go out and play my game and the goals will come,” said Williams, a former England C international who joined from Telford.

“I’ve had three hat-tricks so far, but that is all down to the lads I’m playing with. We’ve won the last three and it was very special in the dressing room after we won at the Nomads.

“I just hope we can keep it going. With the players we have got we should be achieving what we are achieving at the moment and be rivalling teams like TNS, the Nomads and Bala and Barry.”

Bala will be looking to get back on the horse after dropping five points in their last two games – a 1-1 draw against bottom of the table Cefn Druids at home and a 2-1 away defeat to TNS. They picked up a point at Jenner Park in their first clash with Barry, but will be hoping for much more in the return.

Craig Harrison will be hoping the Nomads’ Welsh Cup win at Flint last weekend was a line in the sand for his side.

That provided him with his first win and they will seek to notch their first league triumph since 20 August, eight games ago, when they head to Cyncoed to face Cardiff Met.
