Major stunned by early strikes

-

TWO goals in the first five minutes by Swansea University condemned Llantwit Major to a second defeat in three games as their brilliant unbeaten run at the start of the season became a thing of the past in the JD Cymru South.

And those quickfire strikes from Tim Hicks and George Sellick allowed the students to notch up their biggest win of the season to date. Their 2-0 triumph strengthened their position in eighth place and made it three wins on the spin.

For Llantwit it was a first home league defeat of the season and means they now trail leaders Pontypridd Town by two points.

Pontypridd took full advantage as they stretched their unbeaten run to 14 games with a convincing 4-0 home win against Ammanford.

Ponty exploded into action after a goalless first half with Aiden Lewis opening the scoring in the 57th minute. Drew Fahiya then came off the bench to score twice before Sam Johnson wrapped things up in the final minute.

Briton Ferry Llansawel stayed in touch with the top two with a 4-0 win at Undy Athletic. Mark Jones gave them a great start with a third-minute penalty and it was still 1-0 at the break despite the home side losing Dan Tozer to a red card.

Undy finished with nine men when Dan Jarman picked up his second yellow card two minutes from time. Tyler Brock made it 2-0 on 53 minutes before Keiran Williams and Cory Woods completed the job.

Briton Ferry now face back-to-back games with Llantwit.

Airbus UK Broughton won the battle of the top two in JD Cymru North as they won 2-0 at Llandudno.

Both teams had taken maximum points from their last nine matches and went into the game in peak form. In the end, the league leaders proved too strong, despite having to play for an hour with 10 men.

Joe Palmer picked up two yellows in a highly competitive first half and then top scorer Adam Davies missed a penalty five minutes into the second half for the Wingmen.

When they received a second spot-kick in the 69th minute it was Jake Eyre who stepped up to break the deadlock.

Ollie Lanceley wrapped up the points three minutes from the end with a second goal that keeps Airbus four points ahead of unbeaten Guilsfield. They made it 12 wins without defeat as they beat Prestatyn Town 6-1. Steve Blenkinsop scored a hat-trick and Jamie Hyne scored twice. Iwan Matthews scored the other home goal Sam Spridgeon grabbed a consolation for the visitors.
