SWANSEA........................20 ABERAVON......................30

-

ABERAVON continue to lead the way in the Indigo Premiership Cup with their sixth win in seven games in the Western Conference.

The visitors took an early lead from an attacking scrum when Rhodri Cole got quick ball out for Stef Andrews to score the first of his two tries.

The home side gave away eight penalties in a row in an indisciplined opening.

Flanker Lloyd Evans crashed over for a second try after Aled Thomas had kicked the visitors into the home 22 from yet another penalty.

A third Wizards touchdown followed soon after when Matthew Jenkins burst out of a tackle to set up Andrews.

“We’re delighted so have scored five tries and picked up a bonus point in Swansea,” said Aberavon head coach Jason Hyatt. “We put things right after the mistakes we made against Llandovery.

“We got our driving lineout going well and we finished the game in style.

“The last 10 minutes was the only realistic time that we had a chance of scoring points in the second half and I was very pleased that we took our chances.”

Swansea at least hit back just before the break to get on the scoreboard with a try from Ben Ley that cut the gap to five points.

Former Ospreys wing Hanno Dirksen made a break that helped to create a try for Charlie Davies to give the home side the perfect start to the second period.

Thomas and Davies swapped penalties as the lead changed hands four times in the second half, but a second penalty for the visitors and a brace of tries from wing Matthew Jenkins, the latter converted by Thomas, made things safe and secure for the Wizards.
