THIS week we are celebrating Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW), a campaign which started in 2008 to help millions of people unleash their ideas to start and scale new businesses. Its aim is to inspire people and engage with entrepreneurs, investors, policymakers, researchers among others to stimulate economic growth and innovation.

Over the course of this week 180+ countries around the world will engage in a range of activities that are helping empower entrepreneurs everywhere.

The University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD) is hosting a series of talks and events across our campuses to engage and inspire the next generation of entrepreneurs.

We are committed to developing the entrepreneurial and creative skills of our students as a key planning principle and such skills are embedded in our programmes.

UWTSD encourages the development of new inventions and knowledge, to add commercial, social, and cultural value to society.

To further develop our ability to be a dynamic force within the Welsh (and beyond) eco-system, UWTSD has invested in ShipShapeLtd, whose search tool finds funders for business founders.

It is a clear need, and the expertise will extend our offer significantly to our students and graduates.

UWTSD has introduced the Harmonious Entrepreneurship Society developed by Professor David Kirby, a recently appointed Professor of Practice, and staff member Felicity Healy-Benson, who has helped develop our pioneering educational work across 56 countries as part of EU’s EntreCompEdu Framework.

The Society is inspired by the ancient Tamil poet and philosopher Thiruvalluvar, who believed that “one who cannot live in harmony with others is regarded as an ignorant fool, even if he happens to be very learned in different matters”.

In Global Entrepreneurship Week we are mindful that being enterprising is not limited to starting a business but includes being able to make a positive impact through creative and innovative thinking.
