Davies is aiming to make an impact on the bigger stage for Wales
WALES Under-21 forward Isaak Davies is hoping to make a mark at international level following his senior breakthrough at Cardiff.
Davies heads into Wales’ European Championship qualifier in Gibraltar fresh from setting up Cardiff’s stoppage-time winner against Huddersfield last weekend.
It was the 20-year-old’s second appearance for the Bluebirds having made his debut in Mick McCarthy’s final game in charge last month.
“I have probably watched the video about 1,000 times,” said versatile attacker Davies, who can play through the middle or out wide.
“I was buzzing after the weekend. It was a really good experience for me.”
Davies hopes to make his first U21s start today (6pm) after substitute appearances against Scotland and Bulgaria.
He says he has been encouraged by seeing Cardiff colleagues Rubin Colwill and Mark Harris break into the senior Wales set-up.
Other contemporaries such as Kieron Evans, Sam Bowen and Eli King have also broken through at the Sky Bet Championship club this season.
Davies said: “It does help. When I saw Rubin doing well, when I saw Kieron have his two starts, it just pushed me to try to get on the pitch and do what I can.
“Two of the age groups at Cardiff have been quite strong and it’s good to show that all the hard work is paying off.
“There’s loads of talent in Wales and we are lucky that there is a pathway where we can go and express ourselves.”
Wales are aiming to improve their group standing against bottom-placed Gibraltar after suffering away defeats to Moldova and Holland last month.
