Professor returns to help drive university strategy
PROFESSOR Donna Whitehead joined the University of South Wales this week as the university’s new deputy vice-chancellor.
Joining USW’s executive board, Prof Whitehead will report directly to the vice-chancellor and will help drive forward the implementation of the university’s 2030 Strategy, specifically focusing on the provision of high quality, innovative academic teaching, growing the market share and excellent student experience.
Prof Whitehead rejoins USW from the London Metropolitan University, where she was deputy vice-chancellor. Prior to that, Prof Whitehead was pro vice-chancellor and executive dean for the faculty of business and law at UWE. She has previously worked at the University of South Wales as deputy dean for the faculty of business and society and brings with her a wealth of experience in creating innovative and inclusive learning environments.
Prof Whitehead said: “I’m thrilled to take up the role as deputy vice-chancellor at the University of South Wales. It is a university that I know well and is going through an exciting transformation through its USW 2030 Strategy.
“I have been greatly impressed by its plans and ambition. I am looking forward to working with colleagues and a wider group of stakeholders to continue to diversify our course portfolio, enhance our industry links and, most importantly, ensure all students are given the opportunity to acquire the skills necessary to succeed in their chosen career and make their mark in the world.”
The USW has campuses in Cardiff, Newport, and Pontypridd. It also has two subsidiaries – the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama and The College Merthyr
