JD CYMRU PREMIER LEAGUE

-

THE Connah’s Quay Nomads revival will be put to the test today when they welcome Penybont to the Deeside Stadium in the JD Cymru Premier League.

With just a point separating the two teams in the table, the incentive for the Nomads is the knowledge that if they can make it four league wins in a row then they will leapfrog their visitors and move up into fourth place.

For new boss Craig Harrison that would be step in the right direction as he attempts to put his team back on course for a top six finish in the first phase of the league and then push towards a European ticket.

“The goals now are the same as they were at the start of the season – get into the top six, try to qualify for Europe and then see where we get to from there. We’ve still got a lot to aim at,” said Harrison.

“We’ve got three out of the next four games at home and so we want to get three points to kick-start that run.

“We’ve had a 10 day break from playing and so it has given us the chance to get more time out on the training pitch.

“We’ve got almost everyone fit now and so, apart from Tom Bibby, we are almost back to full strength.

“That’s great news.”

Rhys Griffiths’ Penybont side head to Deeside having won three of their last four games, losing out to Flint in their last trip north, but bouncing back with a win at Cardiff Met last time out.

When the two teams met at the beginning of the season in Bridgend for a televised game it ended in a 1-1 draw with Byron Harrison netting his first goal for the Nomads.

But Harrison will no doubt remind his players of the fact that when Penybont last played in Deeside in April they went away with a 2-0 victory.

Barry Town United welcome bottom of the table Cefn Druids to Jenner Park and Haverfordwest County host Caernarfon Town in today’s other games today.

While the Druids will be chasing their first win of the campaign, the other three are desperate to pick up points to push for a top six place.

Caernarfon are currently one point off Bala Town in seventh place, with Barry a point further back in eighth.

Haverfordwest are eighth another point behind. Bala met Flint Town United last night.
