Boss Jones delighted as England are hammered

-

WALES C took apart England C as they claimed a shock 4-0 victory in front of a packed-out Oval in Caernarfon.

Will Evans and Aeron Edwards both scored twice in the first 34 minutes as Mark Jones masterminded the Red Dragons’ first win over the Three Lions.

“It was a fantastic performance by the boys,” reflected Jones. “This was a quality England side made up entirely of full-time professionals from the National League so to win, and by such a margin, is amazing.

“This just shows how the JD Cymru

Premier League has developed and hopefully we can have more fixtures like this to showcase the talent we have.”

The first chance of the half fell to England’s Callum Roberts who burst into the box, but his cross was blocked for a corner.

Wales then scored with their first effort when Evans picked up the ball down the left and fired the ball across goal into the bottom corner.

There was a penalty shout for England as Roberts went down in the box, but nothing was given.

The hosts then made it two when Edwards capitalised on a defensive mistake and slotted the ball into the bottom left corner.

There was danger for Wales not long after as Alex Ramsay was forced to tip a ball over the bar, the resulting corner was cleared easily.

The faultless first half then got even better for Wales as Lewis Harling pulled a ball back on the left-hand side right to Edwards who was free in the box to fire in.

Wales then continued their first-half form when Evans brought the ball down with ease in the box and curled a beauty into the top left corner.

The first chance of the second half for Wales fell to Mael Davies who was found by Evans from the left, but his shot went wide.

Ramsay was forced into a couple of reaction saves as Michael Cheek tried his luck, once from range and the other from a tight angle.

England had large spells of possession in the second half, but the Wales defence managed to restrict the Three Lions to very few chances and saw the game out with few problems.
