Cardiff in must-win territory – coach Law

STEVE LAW insists every game between now and the end of the season is a must-win game for his Cardiff side.

Cardiff are currently second in the Premiership, 12 points behind leaders Newport, and with only a handful of fixtures left the Blue & Blacks are entering must-win territory.

They face a dangerous Llandovery side at Church Bank this afternoon, and Law has warned his side they will have to be at their very best to come out on top.

“Llandovery is a very tough place to go, the pitch is narrow so you know it will be a tough game, as for them they have been a bit up and down in recent weeks but we are not focusing too much on the opposition and more on ourselves and so we are all looking forward to it,” said Law.

“Having lost to Newport last weekend, we can’t afford any more slip ups this season. If we are to have any chance of winning the league, we have to win every game.

“I’m expecting a big challenge against Llandovery, and we will have to be at our best to come out on top.”

Cardiff slipped to a historic fourth defeat in a season to Newport last weekend, but Law is confident there is enough character in his side to bounce back.

“There is a little bit of disappointment after the semi-final result, it was there for us to win, and I think we all felt it a lot. But we know losing is a big part of sport and it is how you deal with losing that is important. So, looking ahead it is about how we show character in our next games,” said Law.

“Coming up we have a couple of local derbies against Merthyr and Swansea as well so we have ambition to try to close that gap on Newport a bit more who do not have easy fixtures themselves, we know it will be a tough challenge and we are looking forward to it.”

Elsewhere in the Premiership this weekend, there is a bottom-of-thetable clash at Bridgend as they take on Swansea.

Bridgend will be hoping they can put in a performance which will take them off bottom spot and force Llanelli to replace them as they attempt to halt Pontypridd’s winning streak at Sardis Road.

Meanwhile, Ebbw Vale head to Aberavon, while Newport face RGC tomorrow at Rodney Parade (5.30pm).

Carmarthen Quins recorded a significant 27-23 victory over Merthyr at the Wern on Thursday.

An early red card for Merthyr blindside Paddy McBride for a high tackle meant the Ironmen were playing catch-up for the majority of the game

Tries from Lewys Millin, Lee Taylor, and a brace from Kalum Evans secured a bonus-point win for Quins, with Ben Jones, and Adam Hoskins touching down for Merthyr.
