Parkinson full of praise for six-hitters

-

WREXHAM manager Phil Parkinson praised his Dragons side after they had hit Barnet for six to continue their fine run at the Racecourse on Tuesday.

They are now unbeaten in 12 games in all competitions and eight points behind leaders Stockport County, and they showed their ruthless streak as they battered the Bees.

“It was a professional display from us tonight and it was important that we backed up the win against Stockport,” said Parkinson. *It was also important that we learnt from the Dover game [when Wrexham won 6-5 in a crazy game] as well and I felt we did that.

“We played some good football but didn’t get carried away, did the right things in the right areas with the ball and we got our rewards in the end.

“I’m so pleased and different goalscorers as well – it was a good night for the squad.”

Ollie Palmer, Paul Mullin and Jordan Davies got the ball rolling in the first half, and Ben Tozer, Reece Hall-Johnson and Liam McAlinden added to the scoreline after the break.

The game was actually slow to spark into life, but Palmer set Wrexham away with a nice low finish – the striker latching onto a through ball, skipping onto his right foot and sliding a low finish beyond Jake Askew.

Mullin doubled the advantage on 28 minutes firing into the net from close-range after Aaron Hayden’s header – from Tozer’s throw – was brilliantly saved.

Davies then scored the 25th goal of his Wrexham career on the stroke of half-time, finishing a really good move – with Palmer and Mullin combining – with a low finish.

Barnet’s best chance came three minutes after the restart, when Ephron Mason-Clark’s effort struck the crossbar.

Mullin then counter-attacked, and won a corner, from which Tozer fired his first Wrexham goal high into the net.

Palmer could have doubled his tally on 62 minutes, but some last-gasp defending kept the score at four. It was only temporary respite, however, as substitute McAlinden put a teasing cross into the area and HallJohnson was quickest to react to side-foot in at the back post in the 74th minute.

McAlinden fired just wide on 83 minutes, and was then unlucky to see another effort hit Hall-Johnson as he looked bound for the far corner.

He was rewarded for his persistence, however, when he followed in from close range after his own low shot was parried clear by Askew to seal a 6-0 win.

Wrexham are next in action on Saturday when they face Eastleigh at The Racecourse.
