We didn’t take our chances – Reds boss

-

PHIL PARKINSON lamented a host of missed opportunities as Wrexham were held to a 1-1 draw by 10-man Boreham Wood at Meadow Park, giving Stockport County an easier route in the title run-in.

Paul Mullin put Wrexham ahead early in the second half and the Reds had opportunities to build on their lead.

However, the home side scored a 90th-minute equaliser after Tyler French conceded a penalty and the draw leaves second-placed Wrexham three points behind leaders Stockport County, who have a game in hand, in the race for the title.

Wrexham, who host the Hatters on Sunday, only have two games left and Parkinson was disappointed not to clinch victory against the Wood.

“It is frustrating,” said Parkinson. “We controlled it but we weren’t clinical enough to go and get the second or third goal.

“We should have been out of sight with the possession we had in and around the box.

“And then if you can’t get the second goal, make sure you see the game out.

“Tyler has just got to stay on his feet; it is a poor decision, he knows that.

“He is a very good player, the lad is running away from goal and it has proved a costly moment for us.”

Goalkeeper Nathan Ashmore pulled off a string of second half saves to keep the Wood in the game.

“The first 15 minutes we knew they would come at us in terms of the way they play. They are very direct and very robust in the way they play,” added Parkinson.

“We saw that through, got the ball down and got into the rhythm of our play, and (the) first 20-25 minutes of the second half we did exactly what we needed to do which was pass the ball.

“We showed good patience, got a goal and had so many good moments but just needed someone to be a bit ruthless around the box.”
