Martin ‘excited’ about Congreve’s future

-

RUSSELL Martin admits Swansea are “excited” about academy product Cameron Congreve.

The Welshman had made three previous appearances from the Swans, all from the bench, but was handed his first senior start at Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

It represents an impressive rise for the 18-year-old who is still one of the younger members in the club’s Under-23 set-up.

“Cameron deserved to play, he has trained fantastically well with us over the last few months,” the head coach told the Swansea website.

“We have worked with him for a while now, and we had Olivier Ntcham and Jamie Paterson not quite fit enough to start. We could have played some guys who we know more about, but we wanted to learn more about Cameron and I thought he was great.

“He was really good, he showed some good touches and some real maturity.

“He has confidence and he is a great player on the ball and he can make things happen because he is a good technician and we love his mentality. He is one we are excited about and someone we want to develop with.”

■ Jordon Garrick issued an apology to Plymouth Argyle fans after the Pilgrims missed out on the League One play-offs on the final day of the campaign.

The Home Park outfit have been serious contenders for promotion throughout the campaign but a poor run towards the end of the campaign along with a 5-0 loss to MK Dons on the final day saw them miss out on the top six.

Garrick has been a key figure for Plymouth throughout the season, scoring seven goals in 50 appearances in all competitions for the club. But after their final day heartache, the Swansea attacker took to social media to thank all at Plymouth for their support.

“Don’t even know where to start with this one, firstly just want to apologise for today not the way you great fans deserved to end the season too, but as always thank you for the support not just today but through the whole season,” he wrote on Twitter.
