Cardiff hoping Kaba can add some power up front

CARDIFF City left it late on deadline day before completing a loan deal for FC Midtjylland striker Sory Kaba.

There were complications at the 11th hour, when it looked for a time like the deal was off while the Bluebirds were playing against Luton Town on Tuesday night.

Nothing highlighted their lack of cutting edge than the 1-0 defeat by the Hatters.

They looked blunt up top and in desperate need of a focal point, which they hope the 6ft 3in Guinean striker can bring to the table.

Cardiff are the lowest scorers in the Championship and need help at the top end of the pitch if they are to break their 12-game winless run and stay in the division.

Kaba has three goals in 14 international games for Guinea.

He has two goals in 27 games for Danish outfit Midtylland this season.

Kaba made his name in Spain at Elche, for whom he scored 24 goals in 64 games while they were in the Spanish second tier.

He earned a move to Dijon in France in 2019 but struggled for game-time and goals.

In Denmark, though, he helped the club to win the league in his first season and has been a key part of their strike force, scoring 26 goals in 102 outings for the club in total.

The striker also enjoyed a fruitful loan spell in Belgium with OH Leuven last season, netting 12 times in 29 outings.

Meanwhile, goalkeeping coach Graham Stack has left Cardiff with immediate effect.

Sabri Lamouchi was brought in as Bluebirds manager on Friday and it was thought he would keep the remaining coaching set-up which was in place.

However, Lamouchi confirmed after Tuesday night’s 1-0 defeat at Luton Town that Stack has left the club and the search for his successor is under way.

“He is not in the staff anymore,” Lamouchi said on Tuesday when asked why Stack wasn’t in the Cardiff dugout.

Sol Bamba, Dean Whitehead and Tom Ramasut remain part of the coaching staff, while academy goalkeeping coach James Wood, son of former Cardiff keeper George, was at Kenilworth Road on Tuesday.

Stack was appointed last summer by Steve Morison, having previously worked with Watford’s academy.

He lasted just seven months in the job.

He is the third member of the coaching staff to leave this month, with former manager Mark Hudson and ex-head of physical performance Patrick Wilson also having departed the club since the turn of the year.
