THE Scarlets will appoint a new rugby performance director to work alongside head coach Dwayne Peel as part of a significant shake-up.

In response to a poor season which has resulted in just three wins to date, the Scarlets have announced a major restructuring of their rugby operation.

The move means current general manager of rugby Jon Daniels will now lead operations as managing director, while chief operating officer Philip Morgan moves to the role of chief financial operator.

A new head of development pathway will also be appointed and the Scarlets claim this restructuring will strengthen and align Scarlets’ rugby, commercial and community operations - reinforcing a strong Scarlets performance culture.

Scarlets’ new rugby performance director will support Peel by “helping drive a strong and refreshed vision and performance culture, focusing on delivering the highest professional standards, systems and processes that underpin and support Scarlets rugby environment.”

The new head of development pathway will focus on and lead the expansion of its successful rugby development programme including the academy, Elite Domestic

Competition (EDC) teams and the new five Emerging Player Programme (EPP) centres with an increased focus on women and girls’ rugby.

“These senior leadership appointments will help us meet the challenges we face now and in the future both on and off the field,” said Scarlets Executive Chairman Simon Muderack.

“There is a lot of work to do which is vital to our future development, sustainability and long-term success.

“These appointments will bring leadership and knowledge that will intensify our focus and performance to align our rugby business and strengthen a very committed and hard-working team at Parc y Scarlets.

“We are delighted that Jon (Daniels) becomes our Managing Director. Jon is a trusted leader in our business, he has an immense and unique depth of knowledge across professional rugby operations both on and off the field and has time and again shown his commitment and passion for our region in West Wales - putting Scarlets at the heart of its community.

“Philip Morgan’s expertise in governance and financial strategy will continue to be crucial to us during these times of change and transition in Welsh rugby.

“It is of great benefit and value to Scarlets to have someone of Phil’s experience and knowledge focusing on this vital area in our business.

“I would also like to express gratitude to our Scarlets board, who continue to be unwavering in their support and commitment to this club throughout some of its most challenging times.

“We are lucky to have the strategic input and leadership of a group who have so much history, knowledge and belief in Scarlets. With a long-term vision for our region, they fully understand the twists and turns of supporting rugby in Wales.

“Our biggest thanks goes to our loyal Scarlets supporters, partners and stakeholders who are the backbone of our club and who show the same commitment, fight, determination and desire for Scarlets rugby success that our team do and that this famous rugby club is known for.”

The west Walians insist the recruitment process for a new rugby performance director and head of development pathway will commence immediately.
