I’m distressed at the plight of our theatres

-

I OCCASIONALLY go to the theatre or to concerts. I would like to keep doing so. I am distressed at the plight of this sector, especially locally. I will happily purchase £250 or more of future, unspecified, tickets to support local venues. However, that will not be much good unless I can persuade thousands of others to do the same.

There must be many others who will agree. Let us appeal for such an initiative nationwide. Many people will have saved at least that on vehicle fuel during the lockdown. We could target specific regional theatres or orchestras, or set up regional funds (although that sounds a bit bureaucratic).

However, what is needed is for many of us to band together to preserve the culture of our region. ‘Future tickets’ seems a painless way to help deserving local arts provision.

The only risk for me is life expectancy, one that I live with every day.
