Contemporary artworks and superb ceramics
SIX works by contemporary artist and printmaker, Kate Corder, are among the lots on offer at the Bearnes Hampton & Littlewood Antiques & Interiors auction which goes ahead on Tuesday, July 14 in the Exeter salerooms.
Dr Corder, a visiting tutor at The Royal Academy Schools, has a PhD in Art and a strong connection to rural labour, creativity and making art. She has an impressive list of exhibition credits, publications and academic presentations and currently works from her home in Reading. The various print mediums include etching and lithography and the two illustrated here, titled ‘Attitude’ and ‘Only in Dreams’, are offered together with a modest estimate of £30-50*.
Another eye-catching picture in the auction is the oil painting of the Valley of Rocks on the North Devon coast by contemporary painter Paul Stephens who also has impressive exhibition credentials including Mall Galleries in London
and The Royal West of England Academy in Bristol. This original work is estimated at £80-120*.
The wall mask in the form of a beautiful young woman wearing a pink scarf has a strong Art Deco influence and carries an estimate of £80-120*.
On a smaller scale in the ceramic and porcelain section of the auction are the pair of Royal Doulton figures of ‘Pearly Boy’ and ‘Pearly Girl’ and these are estimated at £100-150*.
The Works of Art and Furniture sections include a vast array of items and among them are a life size stoneware character flask in the form of a jolly gentleman that is estimated at £80-120* and a charming 19th Century provincial elm bar back child’s chair that measures just 53cm high is estimated at £50-80*.
