Art to suit all tastes in 900-lot, two-day sale
LODGE and Thomas, The Truro Sale Room is excited to announce its forthcoming two-day Antiques, Collectables and Fine Art sale on Thursday, October 15 and Friday, October 16 at its Truro Saleroom on Newquay Road. The sale will start at 10am each day and is available to view online through the-saleroom.com.
There are over 900 lots on offer, with a particularly impressive paintings section, featuring a stunning oil on canvas of St Ives harbour by John Anthony Park and three oils by Vernon Ward of South Pier, Newlyn, St Ives harbour and a charming still life Spring flowers. The prints of these Ward harbour paintings can be found in many a Cornish home and now someone will have the opportunity to purchase the original works. There is a wide variety of art to suit all tastes, from 18th century portraits to contemporary Cornish art.
The miscellaneous section which starts the sale on Thursday 15 is full of interesting and eclectic items to tempt bidders. A good range of oriental pieces, many good 18th and 19th century English ceramic items and a beautiful 18th century Bilston enamel nutmeg grater.
A Fairburn-Skyes F-S First Pattern commando fighting knife is the leading light amongst a good range of militaria and collectables, including a excellent variety of toys, including Dinky and Hornby, coins, including British, hammered and early milled. Stamps and postcards also feature, including interesting Cornish topographical.
On the second day, as usual, there is a good selection of furniture, featuring a Queen Anne period card table, in need of restoration, but certain to excite aficionados of early untouched English furniture.
There is also a selection of Georgian oak country furniture, West Country Windsor chairs, an early 20th century Louis XVI style ormolu mounted centre table, a Sebastian Erard concert harp.
Mid century furniture including an Ercol three-piece suite, two dining tables and chairs and other Ercol. The 30-lot clock section features five grandfather clocks, including one by Thomas Geach, St Columb and an onyx and spelter clock garniture, though of humble price with interesting provenance in connection to the Levant Mine disaster of 1919.
There is also a very good selection of designer textiles to include Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Dolce & Gabanna, Alexander McQueen, Fendi, Barbour, Burberry and Dubarry among others. There are also several lots of designer ties to feature brands such as Hermes, Versace, Dior, Prada, Paul Smith, Liberty, Ralph Lauren, Hugo Boss and Dunhill.
The auction is at The Truro Sale Room, The Cattle Market, Newquay Road, Truro. Viewing is Tuesday, October 13 and Wednesday, October 14, 11-4 pm, and 8.30am on both mornings of the auction.
