Derby tie in FA Vase matches

-

BTHERE are 11 games involving Devon and Cornwall teams in the second qualifying round of the FA Vase this weekend - and a couple of mouthwatering derbies to boot with Camelford taking on Wadebridge Town one of the picks of the round.

Cameford are top of the Peninsula League Premier Division West table after starting well under manager Reg Hambly, who is in his 30th year as boss at the club. But the manager knows it will be a tough game against neighbours Wadebridge as both teams strive to make it into the hat for the first round proper draw.

Hambly said: “It’s a local derby, which adds a little bit of spice, so we know it’s going to be a really tough game – but obviously the prize is a place in the first round.”

A second Cornwall derby will take place at Kellaway Park where Helston Athletic host Torpoint Athletic from the Peninsula Legaue Premier Division East. Millbrook, top of the East division, host Western Premier side Hallen, while St Blazey have Brislington as their visitors - they are also from the step above.

Across the border into Devon, Newton Abbot Spurs take on Peninsula Premier East rivals Crediton United at the Recreation Ground.

Torrington of the Premier East division face a difficult trip to Western Premier side Shepton Mallet, the team that beat them 3-0 in the extra preliminary round of the FA Cup last month.

Another Premier East side from North Devon, Ilfracombe Town, are away at a Western Premier team - Bridport.

Also in action are Axminster Town at Clevedon Town (Western Premier), Ivybridge Town at Cheddar (Western Division One), Bovey Tracey at Longwell Green Sports (Western Division One) and Elburton Villa at Hengrove Athletic (Western Division One).

Western Premier sides Buckland, Tavistock and Plymouth Parkway will enter the competition at the next stage.
