Delve in treasure trove

-

TOMORROW Sunday, May 9 at 10am PG & RJ PYLE will be conducting their annual spring South West Auction of Architectural Salvage & Farming Bygones.

Some 1200 lots have come to this specialist sale from all over Devon and Cornwall.

There’s a unique Victorian cast iron framed ice slicer measuring 27” in height, a very decorative talking piece, guide £40-50.

A pair of grotesque 30” high stoneware guard dogs will sit lovely either side the porch and come complete with restraining chains, £250-300.

Keen on horses? Or just want a fancy outhouse than a four-horse stable complete with mangers and doors is dismantled and at the auction house, guide £400-50.

In olden days most corn was ground between two horizontal wheels. A pulley-driven Georgian small grain corn grinder is probably unique in the country and comes from a farm near Crediton.

Two granite wheels are set vertical but only one rotates height 40”, guide £200-300.

Another unique example of our industrial heritage is a 4ft high apple crushing mill. Two large stone rollers set within a decorative cast iron frame marked Harrison & Co of Leigh Lancashire, guide £200-300.

In days gone by enamel advertising signs were made by the thousand promoting business. Plastic has now taken over and many of the old signs were loved by builders for mixing cement. The are now rare and very collectible.

Lot 25 is an old enamel sign advertising Lyons Tea in good order, guide £250-300 and one for Siscolin Distemper is very colourful, £250-300.

The sale starts at 10am tomorrow and you can view today up to 5pm.

The auction is now open to the general public to view and bid on sale day or stay at home and bid online with easylive auction.com.
