ELDREDS quarterly Fine Art sale takes place on Tuesday, May 25 from 10am and includes an impressive collection of furniture, pictures, clocks, works of art, silver, watches and jewellery, including items from a local country house, totalling 600 lots.

An impressive early-18th century walnut tallboy or chest on chest heads up the furniture section and should expect in excess of £1,000 and for storage of your books, an early-19th century rosewood open bookcase should fit the bill. At 2m 30cm long, this quality piece should be accommodat­ed by most rooms, even in a modern property, as it measures just 1m 64cm high, estimated at £600-800.

Pictures include paintings from a notable local country house, led by four old master paintings by Johan van Gool (1685-1763), catalogued in two pairs, each carrying an estimate of £10,00015,000. For your garden is a large cast concrete fountain in the form of a water carrier, measuring 160cm high, estimated at £100-200 and an impressive pair of cast concrete urns decorated with frolicking cherubs expects £200-300.

In the ceramics section, a large pair of 19th century Meissen porcelain candelabra would grace any dining table or sideboard, typically-decorated with cherubs and flowers, they should find a buyer with an estimate of £600-800.

Divers’ wrist watches have become increasing­ly desirable over the last few years and Eldreds sale boasts a gentleman’s 18ct gold-cased Rolex Oyster Perpetual Day Date with diamond numerals on a black dial, estimated at £6,000£8,000 and a gentleman’s Rolex Oyster

Perpetual DateJust with steel case and, unusually, a blue dial, estimated at a more affordable £2,500-£3,000, both boxed with papers.

For the ladies is an Edwardian diamond tiara c1910, of lattice design, millegrain-set old brilliant cut diamonds.

Possibly French, this beautiful and delicate piece of jewellery will generate much interest, perhaps for a bride-to-be, and is estimated at £2,000-3,000.

A Victorian novelty silver “Scratch Me” pig matchbox holder can be found amongst an array of smaller, fun and unusual items. Hallmarked for London 1895, this little pig asks £80-120 for a new home.
