For history buffs there’s free entry to many fascinatin­g sights. Highlights include half-price entry and a free D-Day concert for National Lottery ticket holders at Biggin Hill Memorial Museum (the airfield was key during the

Battle of Britain). There’s also Culloden Battlefiel­d, where the 1745 Jacobite rising came to a tragic end, and many of Scotland’s most majestic castles from Culzean to Kellie – all part of National Trust Scotland. Culture lovers can register for a free online creativity workshop with artist Robert Fitzmauric­e. Get inspired at the Museum of Making in Derby with free tickets to the Scale exhibition, which examines prototypes, mapping and perspectiv­e. Or marvel at the beautiful pottery and porcelain tiles at the Allen Gallery in Alton, Hampshire, before enjoying a free hot drink in the cafe when you purchase another item.

For bookworms there’s free entry to the London museums dedicated to Charles Dickens and illustrato­r Heath Robinson, while aspiring writers will receive a free goodie bag at Grimm & Co, a Yorkshire-based charity running workshops to build confidence and creativity in the under-18s.

Wannabe engineers will adore the Concorde Exhibition at the National Museum of Flight in East Lothian, or the Morgans, Jaguars and Land Rovers at the British Motor Museum – both are offering free or discounted entry.

Craving the great outdoors? You can enjoy free entry to the Eden Project in Cornwall, which has a new Korean Garden open this summer, or visit one of the RSPB’s participat­ing reserves free, including Conwy in Wales and Titchwell Marsh in Norfolk.
