Collectors’ items at specialist sale

ARECENT home valuation visit by Eldreds collector’s specialist turned up a good collection of model railway items by the German firm Bachmann. Most of the engines are British steam and diesel engines in OO gauge and will be much in demand at Eldreds specialist sale of collectors’ items on October 5.

Included amongst a varied assortment of ephemera will be an anti-suffragett­e postcard. Using the socialmedi­a site of the day, many commercial publishers produced propaganda postcards against the campaign for the women’s right to vote. These cards often showed the “chaos” clearly bound to ensue once women achieved some power and husbands were forced to do the housekeepi­ng!

The developmen­t of photograph­y and photograph­ic equipment during the 19th century grew quickly following on from the success of the first daguerreot­ype portraits of the 1840’s and 50’s. Of interest in the camera section of the sale will be a later-19th century half-plate camera, probably used for studio work, together with a Rolleicord by Franke & Heidecke and other twin-lens reflex cameras.

Other lots in the sale include Dinky and Corgi diecasts, dolls, medals, a large quantity of stamps, coins and bank notes, books including first edition Charles Dickens novels and lots with military and marine interest.
