Reminders of bygone eras
THE Truro Auction Centre hold its next specialized twoday online Collector’s Sale on Thursday, August 26 and Friday, August 27 with over 1100 lots going under the hammer.
Probably one of the more interesting sections in this twoday sale is the paperwork section which has an archive of original Cornish photographs from JC Burrow, photographer of Camborne. This collection dates from mainly the 1890s to the Edwardian period and has numerous examples of Camborne Town scenes including trams, people and unusual views, together with various coastal areas of Cornwall and a good selection of mining photographs, many of which have not been seen by the public eye.
A good selection of Cornish mining memorabilia should certainly appeal to enthusiasts and collectors including a mining tin test ingot by Bolitho’s of Penzance which should sell for £100-£150. Weapons always sell well at the Truro Auction Centre and probably the highlight of the second day sale is the fine pair of George III Irish cased flintlock duelling pistols by Thomas Fowler of Dublin in simply wonderful condition contained in their original mahogany fitted case with powder flask, bullet mould and accessories carrying a presale estimate of £8000-£14000.
The next specialized sale at the Truro Auction Centre will be a large Antique and Picture Sale with current entries invited. For more information call on 01209 822266, visit www. cornwallauction.co.uk or www.thesaleroom/truro.com/
