Wide range in 1,200-lot sale

DAVID Lay Auctions in Penzance will be holding its next Antiques Auction on September 2 and 3, and there is a great deal to see in this exciting and wide ranging 1,200-lot sale. Viewing slots to browse the sale in person can be booked via Lay’s website or by phone.

There are furniture highlights aplenty, as Lay’s have included in this sale the contents of a beautiful Cornish country manor house that contained a large collection of top quality furniture, particularly sumptuous and stylish French pieces.

Complementing this furniture is elegant lighting and in the ceramics and glass section, fine Sevres and Worcester porcelain – it is a feast for any interior designer.

If modern antiques and collectables are more to your taste then the sale has a fantastic fashion and textiles section. The highlight of which is a collection of Chanel, Gucci and Fendi handbags, including the classic and highly sought after Chanel flap bag in exellent condition and with an appealing estimate of £1500-2500. In the miscellaeous section, Rock n Roll memorabilia include items relating to Queen and the Rolling Stones and should have strong appeal to collectors.

One of the most intriguing lots in this section is a 1940’s sketchbook, filled with beautifully exected wartime and naval drawings by a James Robinson who Lay’s believe served on HMS Southern Prince. His drawings are charming and are a wonderful snapshot of the 1940s. There are also signed Christmas cards from the Prince and Princess of Wales, plus further lots from the Michael Trethewey estate, including some fine globes by Newton.
