BROOM CHALLENGED TO ADD GOALS TO HIS GAME

-

RYAN Lowe has challenged Plymouth Argyle’s on-loan midfielder Ryan Broom to start adding goals to his game, writes Chris Errington.

The 25-year-old, who is on a season-long loan from Championship club Peterborough United, has started the last five League One games after Danny Mayor was ruled out by a thigh injury and has impressed not only Lowe but the Green Army, too, with his highenergy performances in central midfield.

All that has been missing has been a first goal for the Pilgrims, but Lowe is confident it will come soon.

“He’s a fantastic kid, a good player,” said Lowe. “We have liked Broomy since his Cheltenham days. He steps up to the mark and gives you everything.

“He has come in and got used to how we play and what we want from him. The thing now is that I’m challenging him to get goals.

“If he gets goals then great but he’s doing a fantastic job, along with the rest of the lads. He has missed a lot of football of late.

“He went to a different team last season in Burton and didn’t really play, but he’s in a footballing team now and he’s relishing it. We want that to continue, we want him to keep pushing on and getting better. At the moment, there are signs he’s getting better every week, so that’s always pleasing.”

Lowe revealed that had it not been for the injury to Mayor, which came in the 4-0 Carabao Cup first round win at Peterborough, Broom would have been competing with skipper Joe Edwards for the right wing-back role. Instead, Broom has got his chance in central midfield.

Broom netted once for Peterborough last season and got two goals in 11 games for Burton, including a the equaliser against Argyle in a 1-1 draw in April.

Lowe said: “He probably should have scored a couple of goals already. He is unselfish as well and I don’t want to take that out of him because I don’t want him to then shoot when someone is on.

“It’s one of them, do you leave him to just be and he will find the goal? That’s what the plan is. We will leave him to be.”
