Max and Harmonie’s fundraising sleepout

-

NORTH Devon schoolboy Max Woosey has revealed his mother still ‘absolutely hates’ him sleeping outside – even though his marathon tent stay has earned hundreds of thousands of pounds for charity and earned him the British Empire Medal.

The 12-year-old appeared on Good Morning Britain yesterday to speak about today’s Big Campout with fellow Pride of Britain winner Harmonie-Rose Allen.

To celebrate the second anniversary of Max beginning his sleepout he’s urging everyone to get out of their beds and do the same. Not only will Harmonie be joining Max in his Devon garden but celebrity Carol Vorderman will be keeping them company too.

Max told the TV’s GMB presenters his dad doesn’t mind him sleeping outside but his mum is not so keen.

He said: “The big camp out this year is going to hopefully be a global event. It’s the chance to get people to get outside or inside and have some fun with your friends and families. I know that there’s been a lot of hard times for people with Covid and now Russia and Ukraine, so it’s a bit of a chance to have some fun and have a time you’ll remember.”

Max began his sleep out in support of his terminally ill neighbour and friend, Rick Abbott, to fulfil a promise to always have an adventure. Max has now camped out for more than 700 nights and raised in excess of £700,000 – enough to fund 15 annual salaries for NHS nurses.

Now in its second year, Max’s Big Camp Out event is again being led by Max and supported by his fellow Pride of Britain award winner, HarmonieRose. Harmonie was given only ten per cent of survival at ten months old, defying all odds and overcoming life-threatening surgery. She has tackled amazing feats to raise awareness and funds in excess of £100,000 for British meningitis charities.
