There’s no reason to be climate change sceptic
THERE is really no longer any reason for anyone to be a climate change sceptic. There is more than enough, publicly available, information from recognised sources such as the IPCC and the Royal Society to answer everyone’s questions.
Even if you have some nagging doubts about the problems we face without action, you would be reckless not to accept that there is a significant risk given the level of scientific consensus. After all, if you perceive uncertainty, it could equally turn out to be worse than the predictions.
This does not worry Nigel Farage who is seizing the latest opportunity to exploit the culture wars for his own political benefit. His track record on climate change is very poor. He predicted, wrongly, that investment in wind turbines would be a disaster when the reality is that they now offer much cheaper electricity production than fossil fuels.
He believes that climate change is all down to population explosion when this is measurably untrue. New York State is responsible for more carbon emissions than 45 countries in Sub Saharan Africa, where populations have grown most in recent years. He was wrong to claim that increased emissions from China were due to its population growth when the Chinese population is shrinking. It is primarily not how many people there are but what they do that matters, even if Farage would like to pretend there is nothing we
can do. I cannot trust Nigel Farage’s opinion on fracking or anything related to climate change given his fundamental belief that our emissions are not the issue.
Let’s call for a detailed analysis from the Climate Change Committee, who have the statutory duty to advise on this based on analysis, not ill-informed dogma. Pauline Gibson
