Lots of silver and jewellery
ANOTHER busy month of valuations for the Eldreds team has produced this interesting auction to be held on Tuesday, April 5. The lion’s share of the lots come in the silver and jewellery section and include:
A good-quality Victorian solid silver canteen of table flatware, 12 place settings, would grace any dining table at Easter and expects £2,000-3,000.
At the other of the scale is a small pin cushion modelled as a pig, one of the most popular subjects for cushion collectors, which should exceed the £60-80 estimate, and a charming set of table place markers modelled as Chinese artisans is estimated at £80-120.
The jewellery and watches section of over 250 lots includes a selection of watches from top brands such as Rolex, Omega and Tag Heuer, many with original boxes and papers. Of particular interest to watch collectors is a Rolex military pocket watch with black dial which saw service throughout the Second World War, in particular at Dunkirk, with its owner, Major F M Lewis RA. Estimate £400-600. A more modern Rolex is a gentleman’s Rolex Oysterdate Precision wrist watch, boxed and estimated at £1,500-1,800.
The jewellery section boasts some spectacular diamond jewellery including a diamond bracelet of nearly 70 clusters of brilliant-cut diamonds linked together to sinuous effect, estimate £7,000-8,000.
The world-renowned jewellery company, Tiffany & Co. is famed for its style and design. This sale offers a diamond necklace from its “Diamonds by the Yard” range designed by Elsa Peretti. Presented in its Tiffany black suede case and iconic turquoise outer box, this platinum and diamond necklace would make a spectacular present, estimated at £700-1,000.
Who could ask for more for an engagement ring than a classic Tiffany solitaire diamond ring, at £2,100-2,200, with box and, very importantly, sold with a Tiffany & Co. diamond certificate. The matching platinum wedding band is also available at £100-150, or alternatively you may prefer the Tiffany & Co. seven-stone diamond ring, at £1,100-1,500.
Auctioneer Anthony Eldred’s favourite lot comes up in the works of art section; an impressive 19th century wool-work picture of “HMS Aboukir”, a 74-gun ship of the line, which seems in remarkable condition for its age and carries an estimate of £300-500.
