Plenty to interest collectors

ONCE again Okehampton Auction Rooms is packed with a massive selection of lots for its timed online Easylive auction on April 6 to 10.

Amongst a number of longcase clocks on offer is a fine example by well known Manchester clockmaker Nathaniel Sanders. Dating from the latter part of the 18th century it has a mahogany case with Gothic arch door and elaborate hood.

The brass face has silvered chapter ring, moon phases, calendar niche and second dial, overall height is 100”. It has been well maintained by the previous owner and has an estimate of £600/800.

Also amongst the clocks is a 19th century walnut cased mantel clock by Camerer Kuss, a London firm which was started in the late 18th century by two German immigrants. It has a circular enamel dial and stands 17” high with a guide of £100/150.

A mid 18th century German violin was purchased in the early 1960’s by the vendor from the well known London firm John & Arthur Beare of Wardour Street.

It comes with a Kretzschma­nn School bow and a Lawrence Cocker bow all in sturdy case. The collective lot is anticipate­d to achieve £800/900.

Jackson Pollock (1912- 1956) was an American abstract impression­ist artist famous for his drip technique of scattering paint from above his canvases. A print of his 1948 painting Summertime 9A is on offer. The print area measures 7 ¾” x 51” and it is reasonably priced at £80/120.

An early 19th century flintlock pistol came from the Manchester maker Thomas Styan. It is of over and under double barrelled design with folding trigger. The clamp and screw to hold the flint needs replacing which is reflected in the estimate of £100/150 and it measures 7 ½” long.

An early 19th century oak mule chest with good patination has a hinged rising top above two false drawers, with five drawers to the base, The dimensions are 62” wide x 38 ¾” high and 22” deep and bids of £150/250 are anticipate­d.
