Glimpse into a bygone era

-

FROM an array of Doulton art pottery to American superhero comics, rare postcards and a range of collectable silver there really is something for all auction enthusiasts. From the 300 lots on offer there is a lifetimes collection of Ocean liner postcards. Patricia Taylor (1923-2012) was born in Formby, Liverpool, and spent much of her time at the docks admiring all the great ocean liners.

Her passion for these iconic ships became a hobby as she developed an interest in postcards. Over the years she collected an array of photographic and coloured postcards relating to all the many ships she had seen and other around the world. The collection includes such iconic ships from the White Star Line including RMS Olympic, HMS Titanic, RMS Lusitania, and many others. Such was Patricia’s interest that for all the ships that were sadly lost during the war, she carefully marked the front of each card ‘sunk’. The collection is expected to sell for £200 to £300.

Collectors of art pottery have a several Doulton pots to choose from including those designed by the Barlow sisters and Frank Butler, the collection came from the estate of a Plymouth gent living on the Barbican.

One man’s collection of 250 superhero comics were purchased one at a time from the 1960’s onwards. With Moon Knight being released on TV very soon his timing is perfect. Several editons of Captain America and the Avengers are expected to entice bids of £100 to £200.

A Victorian painting of the neo classical Church of St Mary-on-the-Quay, Bristol showing the church next to the Colston River later filled in. Painted in 1867, by

H.W.Bartlett this historic work should sell for £100 to £200.
