Schuey’s praise for Argyle’s Mayor

MIDFIELDER Danny Mayor is a fantastic talent and ‘a huge part of how we play’ according to Plymouth Argyle manager Steven Schumacher.

Mayor, 31, has been in superb form for the promotion-chasing Pilgrims recently, and was one of four nominees for the Sky Bet League One Player-of-the-Month award for March.

However, the prize went to Sheffield Wednesday skipper Barry Bannan, who was involved in more than half of the Owls’ 17 goals in March, scoring three of them himself with long range shots.

Mayor is up for another award, though, after being shortlisted for the Sky Bet League One Goal-ofthe-Month award for March for his terrific strike in the 2-0 win against Cheltenham Town at Home Park.

Voting is now open on Twitter, on the EFL’s @SkyBetLeagueOne divisional account. It closes at 5pm on Monday and the winner will be announced next Friday.

Schumacher said: “Danny is a fantastic talent and has got so much ability. He’s a huge part of how we play.

“He has started to hopefully contribute some more goals, he’s getting assists from his crosses. He’s a good part of the team. He’s a leader as well, even though he’s quite quiet.

“We have got a good relationship. We have worked closely together for three or four years and he understands what I want from him.

“I only have to look at him at times and he knows something is not quite acceptable, but when he’s playing well he just gets a little thumbs up as well and he knows when he’s the man.”

The other Sky Bet League One Goal-of-the-Month for March nominations are Aaron Morley for his strike for Bolton Wanderers at Gillingham and Oxford United’s Gavin Whyte who was on target in their home clash against Burton Albion.
