Beautiful pieces will delight buyers

WHITTONS Of Honiton’s next sale is a two-day Silver, Jewellery, Collectabl­es, Furniture and Militaria Auction on Wednesday, April 20 and Thursday, April 21, commencing at 10.30am on each day.

The first day starts with silver to include an extremely rare Eexter tapering goblet made by John Elston I, a local renowned silversmit­h. There are clear punch marks to the base dating the piece to circa 1700. The auctioneer’s pre-sale estimate is £3000 - £4000.

Also on offer is a good George II straight sided crested silver coffee pot, made in London in 1735 by Thomas Mason, (Est. £1500 - £2000); a circular Charles II silver porringer attractive­ly decorated with flowers and scrolls, made in London 1667, (Est. £1500 - £2000); a heavy pair of silver stags weighing approx. 500 grams, (Est. £800 - £1200), and a large pair of Georgian cast candlestic­ks, (Est. £1500 - £2000).

There is a lifetime collection of novelty silver items sourced from a private estate in Sidmouth, comprising interestin­g nutmeg graters, caddy spoons and vinaigrett­es of all shapes, sizes, designs and makers. This collection is all being sold at auctioneer’s discretion.

A selection of jewellery and watches concludes proceeding­s for day one.

Day two commences with a collection of paintings and pictures, followed by a large collection of collectabl­es, china and furniture.

Among the varied selection of items is a collection of interestin­g militaria sourced in North Devon all being sold without reserves. There are swordstick­s, trench art, bayonets, war medals, etc.

Among the ceramic pieces is a large collection of Coalport, Dresden, Royal Doulton and Oriental china. There are also some interestin­g Chinese brass censers and other brass pieces from a collection of Eastern items. The sale finishes with a large amount of antique and other furniture.

Viewing for this auction will be by appointmen­t on Monday, April 18 from 10am – 1pm, and Tuesday, April 19 from 9.30am – 4.30pm.
