City open away end for home supporters

-

FANS just can’t get enough of Exeter City’s fantastic season so far and the club are opening up their Tracks Suzuki St James Road Stand to ensure as many home fans as possible can see the team play, writes Stuart James.

With all home areas of St James Park sold out for the second match in succession, the decision was taken to open the stand usually reserved for away supporters with today’s opponents, Rochdale, bringing less than 200 spectators to Devon.

The club did the same for the Good Friday clash with Colchester United and the additional home fans in the traditional St James Road away end certainly enhanced the atmosphere and helped the Grecians to a 2-0 victory over the Essex side.

Around 600 places are available and with the match not all ticket, anyone turning up at St James Park today without one is strongly advised to enter the ground at the St James Road end.

“We had that against Colchester on Good Friday and it looks like being the same again against Rochdale, potentially against Barrow on Tuesday and then obviously the last game of the season against Port Vale, which has already sold out,” City boss Matt Taylor said.

“That’s a reflection of where we are in the league, what we are challenging for and what the fans have been able to get behind this season, culminating in what’s towards the end of it.”

Exeter know that two wins from their next two home games against Rochdale and Barrow would guarantee them promotion, regardless of results elsewhere, but if things go in their favour, they could be promoted today.

For that to happen, City would need to beat Rochdale and hope that Northampton Town, Bristol Rovers and Sutton United lose to Leyton Orient, Forest Green Rovers and Barrow respectively.

Lerague leaders Forest Green, currently five points ahead of the Grecians, will be promoted to League One if they get a point at Bristol Rovers.
