Keen bidding produced results

-

HIGH attendance and keen internet bidding helped produce another outstanding auction for Michael Bowman at Chudleigh Town Hall on March 25.

A modern oil by Brian Shields (Braaq), very much in the style of Lowry and showing numerous children at play on a frozen lake, led the picture section when a telephone bidder from Hampshire prevailed at £5,500.

An Irish telephone bidder appreciated the traditional charms of a 19th century ormolu mounted ebonized bracket clock, complete with original wall bracket, for a double estimate £1,000. A pair of 17th century brass candlesticks of trumpet form, raised eyebrows when a specialist local dealer in the room fought off all competition with his winning bid of £2,100.

Two examples of boxed Rolex bi-metal Submariners with their original guarantee receipts from the early 1990’s also stayed with local bidders, each selling for upper estimate £7,000. A London internet bidder bought the gent’s 14ct gold Rolex Oyster for £2,500, whilst a Westcountry collector paid a double estimate £1,600 for a stainless steel

Omega Speedmaster chronograph.

Collectors in the room secured the glamorous diamond necklace in 18ct white gold for £4,400. A couple from Plymouth took home the natural 3.3 carat Burmese sapphire and diamond ring for an above estimate £3,700. A high carat gold necklace with earrings, bought in Dubai around 30 years ago, sold for £2,800.

An antique gold posy ring, resembling a wedding band, but bearing an engraved inscription to its interior ‘In thy breast my heart doth rest’, sold for an impressive £1,250 to a collector from the USA. A George IV gold sovereign, dated 1825, sold for £700.

A collector from Pennsylvania bought the 3.5 inch gauge live steam model locomotive ‘Elener Knapweed’ for £1,300.
