Refreshing Rosé embodies the essence of summer

- With Dan Farrell-Wright from Devon-based Wickhams

ROSé embodies the essence of summer – al fresco garden suppers, languid afternoon picnics, or balmy evenings watching the setting sun. Each sip transports you to a world of leisurely repose.

The first encounter with rosé unfolds slowly, teasingly – the glass, tinged with a delicate blush, whispers promise of refreshing indulgence. As the wine meets the lips, a symphony unfurls: wild strawberries, cherries, and summer fruits dance upon the tongue, finished with a lick of citrus.

And why is it so enjoyable? Rosé is the embodiment of versatility, effortlessly adapting to any occasion. Its crisp acidity and gentle tannins act as a harmonious counterpoint to enhance food and enliven the palate. It is a drink that encourages conviviality and fosters connections, like a charming raconteur at the heart of a soirée.

Sharing a bottle of rosé with loved ones is an invitation to laughter, storytelling, and the forging of lasting memories.

Below are my three picks to raise a glass to the summer season. Cheers to the delights of rosé!

Domaine de la Vieille Tour (from £13.95, Wickhams) is a classic Provence rosé – highly drinkable, perfectly pale, and with delicate aromas. The palate is characterised by lovely, sweet fruit, and a long lemony finish.

Le Versant Grenache Rosé (from £10.80, Wickhams), from the Languedoc, is deliciously perfumed with strawberries, raspberries, and orange flower aromas.

Gran Ducay Brut Nature Rosado Cava (from £11.25, Wickhams) is a pale pink sparkler from Aragon, Spain. The wine is left on the grape skins to allow the colour to bleed from the Garnacha grapes, this soft approach gives subtle red fruit flavours of wild strawberry and redcurrant with a wonderful creamy texture.
